In 1999, the National FFA Organization began a major initiative looking at how young people are prepared for the future. The results showed that students weren't adequately aware of the choices they make and how those choices affect their futures. As a result, FFA began a strategic initiative that created the LifeKnowledge curriculum to help teachers integrate learning about leadership, personal growth and career success into any academic or training curriculum.

At the foundation of LifeKnowledge is a comprehensive definition of leadership. More than 1,000 teachers, teacher educators, industry representatives and others defined in great detail 16 competencies, or precepts, that are the necessary components of premier leadership, personal growth and career success. Additionally, for each of these 16 precepts , various “signs of success” were identified.

• LifeKnowledge includes a set of 257 lesson plans structured to help FFA advisors and agricultural education teachers educate and prepare middle school and high school students to become proficient in the 16 precepts.
• Lessons provide teachers cutting-edge education techniques using e-Moments that engage students in learning and enhance the retention of information, along with a variety of ideas for classroom activities and discussions.
• The program is designed with complete flexibility so that teachers can incorporate techniques into their teaching programs that are tailored specifically to their students’ needs.

LifeKnowledge offers a unique approach to leadership education that is designed to help every student in every class develop 16 precepts necessary for premier leadership, personal growth and career success.

Essential Support from Founding and Supporting Partners

The creation of LifeKnowledge is a momentous task that would not have been possible without the financial contributions of five generous Founding Partners. John Deere, Monsanto, the National Pork Board, Chevrolet and Cargill have each donated $500,000and our Supporting Partner, Merial, has donated $250,000 to the LifeKnowledge Center for Agricultural Education and the LifeKnowledge program development process. Their sponsorship aids in developing the remaining key tools, services and materials that support teaching professionals as they integrate LifeKnowledge into the classroom.
